collaboration with the narcycist
Techniques: Laser cutting, laser etching, AutoCAD, hand stitching.
Materials: leather, walnut, metal buckles.
Story: The Narcycist is a hip hop MC and journalist from Canada. I liked his work so wanted to create something cool for him. Living up to his name, he originally requested a wooden crown but I convinced him that my ideas were much better which resulted in this elaborate bracelet. I took inspiration from Boulle furniture (since it has the appearance of dark wood and is grandiose) and further inspiration from a Spiderman comic which gave me ideas on how to make a piece of wood curve (without having to carve it). I also incorporated an element of the Egyptian flag since he had just released a single about Egypt.
The base is made from laser-etched golden leather. The panels are made from laser cut walnut. I drew the whole thing in AutoCAD which allowed me to accurately scale everything and generate the files I needed for the laser cutting.
